Israel: Wood Carving. Handmade figure of Mary and Jesus. Beautiful Condition.

Description

This is a figure from the Holy Lands.  The carving looks and feels as though is is hard maple or a wood of similar color and density. You can see the hand carving tool marks in the fine chisel detailed areas.  The inscription on the back reads as follows:

From
Grandma & Grandpa
Oct. 1945*
*Note: the date looks to be 1945.  Although possible, it's not likely. So to be safe, I'm believing the date to be 1975.
The carving is just over five inches tall and three inches wide
.  It really is quite beautiful and wonderfully carved. It took very talented hands and keen eyesight to capture the details displayed in this piece.  It is definitely a hand carved piece.  You can see the hand chisel marks in the tight corners of the carving. It's a lovely piece, and the theme is beautiful.
